Jay C. Hormel Nature Center of Austin MN

Nature Center of Austin Minnesota

Located right outside of Austin MN, this nature center was primarily funded by J.C Hormel, related to the Hormel family that founded the maker of Spam, Hormel.
This center is often frequented by school field trips and many friends just out for a walk. The entire nature center is photogenic and also includes a tower that you can climb to get a good view of the prairie.

If you want a good day trip then come to the Nature Center with some food for a picnic or just a walk around. The Center is full of trails ranging from prairie to evergreen woods, and just soft wooded areas. I love to run or jog through this place, I can't imagine the miles I've ran or walked in this place.
The guest center is also a great place to visit to learn about native americans from the area and all the animals the frequent the center. If you're lucky you might be able to see a feeding of their owl or hawk, both very beautiful birds. By far my favorite place in Austin MN is this nature reserve, please visit it.

If you do plan to spend a couple hours out here I'd strongly recommend bringing a hydro-flask, I never come here without mine. If you're interested in purchasing and want to help support me here is a link to the only water bottle you'll ever need.

Prior to this trip I had never been outside of the United States; the most I had traveled was driving to Arizona and flying to Florida. Neither of my parents were big international travelers aside from my mother who had visited Ireland a few times with and without her father. I have always gone down the path least traveled and this would be no exception. I was 18 and I knew that either my parents would support me and I travel or they would not support me and I would still travel. I had saved up for this trip for over a year and would not back down from the challenge. Days flew by until the departure date had arrived, I did not sleep the night before because my flight was early in the morning on the 17th. I figured I would sleep while on the flight to combat the jet lag. My mother, grand mother, and grand father brought me to MSP,...
